Short Story: Laughter and Tears

Hey everyone! A few days ago I wrote a story, this time too, in response to a topic in an AS level English Language paper. Although the topic asked for a 'descriptive piece', what I wrote is more of a story (despite not following a proper story structure!) than a descriptive writing. Nevertheless, it is better than some of the other stuff that I wrote lately, so I'm posting it here. I would really look forward to any feedback and constructive criticism on it. Write a descriptive piece called Laughter and Tears . In your writing, create a sense of contrasting moods to help your reader imagine the scene. It was a hot afternoon and they were playing hide-and-seek in the house. This time she was “it”, and as she counted to hundred, they rushed into their hiding places, giggling and whispering. The innocent young girl, unaware of what life held in store for her, laughed as she rushed from room to room, spotting each one of her friends. She had been running down the ...

Short Story: At Last

Here's a story I wrote a few days ago in response to a topic given in an AS level English Language past paper that I was solving. I think it has been quite a while since I wrote any stories - I've been more into writing articles lately - so the standard of this is perhaps not as good as it should be. Also, this story is focused towards exploring the inner thoughts and feelings of the main character, rather than building suspense and excitement, which I think is a weak point, but that is what the task had asked me to do. I hope you enjoy reading it. I would really appreciate any feedback and constructive criticism, as there certainly is a lot of room for improvement. Additionally, my exams are only three months away, so feedback and suggestions would be very helpful. Write a story called ‘At Last’, about a person who has waited a very long time for something important to happen. In your writing, create a sense of this person’s mood and how it changes through the story. ...

Late again

This is a narrative essay that I wrote yesterday. The topic was: Write a story which includes the sentence: 'Right! That's it! You have been late too often.' Now I'm not really that good at writing stories and narratives, so this might not be as good the previous essays. I'm ready to welcome any feedback\constructive criticism, so feel free to leave a comment.  Thank you, and happy reading! :) Seema woke up at six am, as her alarm clock went off. She got out of bed and stretched, thinking; ‘I will not be late today.’ She remembered how she had been late in class several times last week. Her teacher was angry at her about this as he could not stand interruptions in his class. ‘But it will not happen again.’ Seema decided, determined. Seema was a college student and the youngest of four siblings. Her elder siblings were married and well-settled, and her father had died a few years ago. That only left Seema to care for her weak, ailing mother, juggling her r...

A glimpse into my novel

I had the idea for this story for ages, and I finally decided to share it on my blog. This is just a part of the story, I might make it a prologue, or perhaps insert it somewhere in between. It isn't exactly a glimpse, since I don't think you'd call 700 words a glimpse. XD I plan to make it a novel. Please comment and tell me what you think about it, and whether you'd like to read more or not. Feedback and constructive criticism will be appreciated. “So you can now operate the machine, and I hope I can leave you to look after the shop when I’m gone.  Now we have to see how you deal with customers.” The stationary shop in-charge said. “And we can find that out quick enough, as I can see our first customers of the day coming.” Two college students, about the boy’s age, were coming towards the shop, carrying heavy bags filled with books. He eyed them with a pang of envy, thinking that if his life hadn’t taken that unexpected turn, he might have been like one o...

Short Story~The Storm

Here is a story that I wrote recently on a topic of a past O level paper. Please keep in mind while reading it that this is the third draft  of the story. Feedback would be taken seriously and appreciated. An instantaneous splash of water landing on the deck woke up the sailor. He leapt out of bed and hurried up to the deck, hoping that all was well. The situation was worse than he had anticipated. It was raining cats and dogs, accompanied by a very strong gale. The roar of thunder indicated the beginning of a storm. The bottom of the ship was already flooded about six inches deep with water and its level was increasing with the rain. The sailor quickly rang the siren for help and grabbed some buckets. Sleepy-eyed men came out of their cabins to help and he directed them towards the flooded area, where he handed out buckets and yelled out instructions. His voice was barely audible over the heavy rain and thunder, but they seemed to understand. They went to work at once, ...

Who's at the Door-Short Story

A Story on an Animal: Lizard

I shared this very short story on the Thinkers' Club Blog, and I'm sharing it here too. It is a little different from the Original Version , but is written by me. Just as I got out of my hiding place under the bed, A girl entered the room. I stayed still, hoping to be unnoticed, but her terrible eyes spotted me and she screamed so loudly, that my ears hurt! I ran back under the bed, terrified! I  was so frightened that someone would kill me if I came out, so I stayed inside all day long until night. And when everything was quiet and everyone fell asleep, I changed my home to a safer place with other creatures of my kind.
