My Hydraulic Crane

Hi everyone!

I recently attended a workshop at L2L Academy, on 'Hydraulics'. In it, we got to learn the concept of hydraulics, which can be demonstrated using syringes and a pipe. Cranes and many building machines function through hydraulics. In the workshop, each participant had to make a toy crane by themselves using the basic concept of hydraulics, and using pieces of wood, syringes, pipes, nails, water, and a few other materials. Each person had to design and make their own crane. Here I'm sharing a video which shows how it works:

Below are pictures of the crane in every position it can be in:

Please tell me if you like it and give feedback in comments. (I love getting comments!)

  1. Excellent work! I love your design. I would love to include your designed crane (with your permission) in my Science workshop whenever I do it in future. One suggestion; do explain in the video how the model works and how you made it.

    1. Thanks a lot! =D Yes, sure you can include it in your Science workshop. Thank you for the suggestion. I just couldn't think of what to say, and whether to speak in Urdu or English!

  2. This is really cool!! I love the way you showed how it works by including a video. You've made it brilliantly too. Funnily enough I've been learning about Hydraulics in Science recently. XD

    1. Thanks a lot! :) You have? Did you learn it using syringes too?

    2. Yeah! But unfortunately not with syringes. D: That would've been awesome though! It was basically in a textbook, all about pressure, and some facts, like cars use Hydraulic brakes. XD

    3. Btw, the visitor gadget keeps saying I'm from these certain locations in the UK that I'm not from. LOL.

    4. Although mind you (sorry to comment again XD) the one from Fes Boulemane is accurate. O.O

    5. Oh, I guess it would've been from a Physics textbook. Before I and my siblings went to the workshop, Zainab got a Physics textbook and searched up the concept of Hydraulics. She understood it, and tried to explain it to me as well, but I totally couldn't understand 'input force' and 'output force' or something like that! :/ But when I went to the workshop, the teacher showed us how it worked by demonstrating through syringes, and I understood at once! :) It's much easier to understand the concept when you can actually see the thing happening. 8D

    6. Oh it does? XD Well, I get loads of views from places like Islamabad, and I seriously wonder who is watching my blog from Islamabad. O.O

    7. Yeah. :) Ohh, of course, yes, that! XD It's kind of hard to understand, so I don't blame you! Oh right! That's interesting then. It really shows that through videos and experiments, people can understand things in science better. :D I wish I'd been able to go to a workshop like this!

Haha yeah! XD Ohh! Yeah you're right! Maybe someone at the workshop you conducted has a connection with someone there and recommended your blog to them? Or either it's a glitch and the person is actually from Karachi maybe? ^^

  3. keep on posting posts like this because I'm really interested in Science (it's my favorite subject ;) ) and.... I never knew about Hydraulics because I only finished grade 5.

    1. Ok! Yes, Hydraulics is introduced in higher classes, although it is actually a pretty simple concept. :)
