Communication

Here's a piece of writing by me. The topic is taken from an O level past paper of English Language.

Do electronic forms of communication, for example emails and texts, make writing letters unimportant now? What is your opinion?
Give examples and reasons to support your view.

I agree with the opinion that electronic forms of communication have made writing letters seem unimportant in today’s world. Like always, people move towards the easier and more convenient options, so with the arrival of technology, people are beginning to forget how they used to communicate with loved ones living far away in the past.

One reason for moving on to electronic forms of communication is that it’s fast. If you post a letter today, it would take at least two till three days to reach its destination while an email or text message hardly takes a second. Also, emails and most social networking sites are free while sending a letter through post costs money.

Another reason is that the post is not so reliable. There’s always a chance of your letter getting lost in the long journey or turning up at the wrong address. However, your email or text message will always reach the place you mentioned. Emails and texts are also more eco-friendly as they don’t consume any paper.

I think that writing letters isn't that important anymore as you can tell the same thing through an email. The important thing is communication, not the way you do it.

  1. Wow! I love how you answered the question! You've given both good examples and reasons, and not to mention, an opinion too. I definitely agree with you! I like emailing/texting because you can correct any mistakes you've made easily. However, if you write a letter, there's a chance you'll come across a mistake and you'll need to cross/rub it out; it makes the letter appear messy. One thing though, is that a lot of people enjoy receiving letters more than emails, because they're real, not virtual and have had more effort in being made. This is a great piece of work; I couldn't have done any better! Keep it up, Fatima!

    1. Hey, thanks! And good point. And yes, that's true that receiving a letter makes a person feel of more value than receiving an email. Thanks for the feedback!

    2. No problem! Thanks! Letters (or cards, at least) show me that the person has spent more time in making and sending it especially for me, but personally, receiving emails are just as great too (especially if they're long, in my case XD)! Do you prefer receiving emails then?

    3. I like cards and letters too, but emails as well. I specially like those emails that people send me by their self, not as a reply of my email. I also like getting comments on my blog (I have to thank you for that!) I've told loads of people about my blog, I've even made and given out bookmarks with my blog address on the back and requesting people to visit and comment on it, but hardly anyone takes the time to do it.
Thanks again for all your encouraging comments and feedback! :)

    4. That's right! I enjoy receiving comments on my blog too - thanks to you as well! <3 Same! I've given the link to my blogs to a lot of my friends in real and a many people I know, but they don't seem to want to view them for some reason, either. I think they prefer playing games or doing things that are in trend now. I could try the bookmark idea, actually! No problem, thanks to you too! :D

    5. No problem! Yeah, these days people seem to be playing too much computer games, to have time to do other useful things like blogging and commenting on their friends blogs. I've sent the link of my blog to many friends too. I even keep reminding them to visit my blog. Maybe they visit but don't comment. You need a gmail account to comment, and those people who haven't got a gmail account, can't comment on the blog.
Hey, look at our chat room!!!

    6. True. You know, I always see people I know practically staring at games on their mobiles the whole time too. XD Same! You could see the "stats" to check if they visit or not, maybe? Apparently, I recently figured out you don't need a Gmail to comment; the default setting sets it to a few that are currently on the list on your blog, but you can change the setting so people comment as "Name/Url" and "Anonymous" - I've ticked it for both my blogs. Goodness, we've made quite a comment chain! :O

    7. Yeah your'e right, I've seen that option. I guess I should do it for my blog too. And seeing the stats gives us an idea of when people visit the blog. You know, there's a place where we see people from different countries have visited our blog.
Just a question, I was wondering, how many blog posts have you published on your blog yet?

    8. Yeah. On my writing blog, I've had views from people of other random countries. Funnily enough hardly anyone from the UK has viewed it, while so many people from the US have. On my writing blog I've published 31 posts, while on my art blog, I've shared 22. How about you? :)

    9. I've published 25 posts till now, there's a Blog Archive gadget on the right that shows this. Oh, and I read the chapter 1 of your novel a few days ago, Totally loved it! I'll comment on it too, and can't wait to read the rest!

    10. Okay. Yeah, I saw the comment! Thanks for reading it! Is there a part in it that you liked best? (just asking so I know what to improve on XD)

    11. Oh, whoops, that's a bit irrelevant to the post! But we've really done some communication here! XD

    12. I love every description. It's so interesting and detailed. It shows a glimpse into the life of a super-rich girl.
And the note, 'I'm not Fariza's type, okay?' made me laugh!! So I know you're not like that!
It seems like we really know each other, doesn't it? I wonder if we can ever talk on hangout?!

    13. Thanks so much! Lol, I'm not quite like her in the sense that I don't have a chauffeur or maid like her and the fact that she has this expensive, pink radio that she listens to songs on all the time - which calms her down. XD Hehe, I'm talking about her as if she's a real person. Yeah, maybe! You mean, like, live message chat? I wonder if we could see each other on ROBLOX too. I think I'm going to post the second extract of that story now. :D

    14. I just read extract 2!! It's amazing! :) Yes, I did mean live chat or maybe even talk! But I guess that won't be possible. Maybe I can join ROBLOX too. Does it have restrictions to ask or share personal information like in Scratch too? Just wondering.

    15. Thanks so much!! :D <3 (And thanks for reading, too!) Oh, okay. :) It would be great if you could join ROBLOX! Yeah, it does. Apparently, you're not even allowed to give any details in your bio that link to other website links except for ROBLOX and Lua Learners. But I guess that's just for safety reasons. You can PM (Private Message) on there though, unlike in Scratch. Would you be allowed to play games on there once in a while, or would you prefer not to? That's if you sign up - you can choose not to of course.

    16. Okay, thanks for telling me! I do think I'll join. Or maybe after a few days.

      Delete
    17. No problem! That would be great! You don't have to join if you don't want to though - it's entirely up to you.

  2. Thanks for sharing your experiences—it's like taking a virtual tour through the streets of Italy! Who knows, maybe one day you'll get the chance to zip around Hamilton in one of those quirky green trucks. Cheers to more exciting adventures on the road!rentacardubai
